10 million Euro for Ararat and Armavir irrigation systems development

With an aim of financing “Developing irrigated agriculture in Ararat and Armavir provinces” 10 million Euro will be invested in irrigation systems by grant agreement signed between RA Government and “French Development Agency”.

The program implementation phases were presented in the course of discussion held in the territory of Vedi newly built water reservoir, with the participation of H.E. Olivier Decottignies Ambassador of France in Armenia, Mathieu Vasseur, Regional director of Eurasia, Vahagn Gevorgyan head of  “Water Committee” and “Armenian Territorial and Development Fund” working group, in the lead of Sargis Baghinyan, the executive director.

The aim of project is to provide an institutional support to RA Government assisting efficiently both on local and irrigated modificated agriculture development levels to farmers of Ararat and Armavir provinces.

The project consists of five main components: to assist RA Government in irrigation sphere current reforms, to introduce innovative steady tools aimed at elimination  of obsticles emerged for economic development of irrigated agriculture, to assist enhancing qualified training course  for farmers and support farmer groups’ steady development in Armavir and Ararat provinces.

In the scopes of program irrigation systems efficient management software will be developed by “Armenian Territorial Development Fund”. Stated owned irrigation systems will be measured and inventoried. In irrigation systems renewable estate   and investments priorities will be assessed. Water resources management comprehensive model will be introduced for Ararat and Armavir WU. SCADA system centralized management system will be established.
